The Department of Health (DOH), in partnership with the Davao City Health Office’s (CHO) Tropical Disease Division, kicked off the Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito Drive in Barangay Buhangin on February 24.

The Alas Kwatro, Kontra Mosquito Drive is a program of the DOH in partnership with the local health offices in the country that aims to prevent the spread of Dengue and other diseases in the community through intensified search and destroy activities.

The program urges the community to conduct clean-up activities, and search and destroy possible mosquito breeding sites.

At exactly 4 p.m., personnel from the CHO’s Tropical Disease Division along with the residents of Barangay Buhangin conducted a clean-up drive.

DOH Undersecretary Abdullah Dumama Jr. also went house-to-house with CHO’s Tropical Disease Division Head Melodina Babante.

He reminded the public to make it a habit to clean their surroundings and ensure that there are no possible mosquito breeding sites in their areas.

Babante also reminded Dabawenyos of the importance of taking part in search and destroy initiatives in the fight against Dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

“Pinakaimportante ang search and destroy kay sa ingon pa ‘prevention is better than cure’. Sa wala pa nahimong lamok ang mga larva, pupae or itlog, atoa na sila’ng puksaon or atoa na’ng i-destroy kay posible pagka-adult mosquitos na nila posible sila’ng magdala og dengue virus (The most vital part in combating the spread of Dengue is prevention through search and destroy activities. We have to destroy mosquito eggs, pupae, and larva before they become adult mosquitos that carry the dengue virus),” she said.

Barangays that are yet to have their own Barangay Mosquito-Borne Diseases Task Force (BMDTF) are urged to create their own BMDTF as it is crucial in implementing ways to stop the spread of the disease.

“Dako ang impact sa paghimo og task force sa tagsa-tagsa ka mga barangay. Kung gusto ninyo ang support gikan sa amoa, mu-assist sa inyoha, willing mi, ready mi mu-assist sa inyohang mga barangay to facilitate the creation of mosquito-borne disease task force (The BMDTF has a huge impact in the barangays. We are willing to help support and give assistance to barangays and facilitate the creation of their own BMDTF),” Babante said. CIO
