In line with the World AIDS Day, various organizations, public and private offices will conduct a free HIV screening and self- care services at Rizal Park on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
The theme of the observance is “World Aids Day: A Christmas Celebration of Hope, Humanity and Compassion.”
Jey Macalawa, President of the Kabataang Family Planning Organization of the Philippines-Davao Chapter, in an interview over Madayaw Live Program held at the newly opened National Museum of the Philippines Davao on Wednesday, bared that the Davao City Aids Council organized the event.
“Mas makabuluhan siya kay gi-konekta sa Pasko Fiesta. Ang tumong sa maong program mao ang pagdawat ug paghigugmaay sa mga tao nga naa’y HIV ug sa kadtong katawhan nga naa ani nga balatian (The event is made more meaningful because it is a part of Pasko Fiesta. The main goal of the program is for acceptance and love for people who contracted HIV and all of those who have this disease)” he said.
The services available include free haircut, free HIV screening, and handing out of free contraceptives. The program will run from 1 pm to 6 pm.
Macalawa said that in Davao City, testing and screening for HIV are free.
Macalawa added that the intensified HIV screening and testing is part of the main goal of the program.
He said that the City Health Office has been the partner of various agencies and organizations in reaching out to Dabawenyos for them to avail of services related to HIV. He noted that many have availed of these services in Davao all year round.
He assured that under the tests, the principles of confidentiality are observed and those who are found to be positive are given guidance and referred for treatment.
Macalawa said that they also have an existing partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan for the conduct of comprehensive sex education and orientations, such as HIV 101.
He invited Dabawenyos to join and participate in the event. CIO
