The City Government of Davao, through the Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), awarded the most functional People with Disability (PWD) organized groups in Davao City for providing invaluable support to the community through their exemplary practices.
The “Search for the Most Functional PWD organized group” is a yearly activity of the CSWDO, as part of its year-end festivities. It is aimed at institutionalizing and empowering PWD in creating programs and services that address their problems and concerns.
The awarding was held at the World Palace Hotel on October 31.
The Barangay 37-D PWD Association from City Poblacion B was hailed as the winner, while Barangay 76-A PWD Supreme Group was first place, and Barangay 7-A from City Poblacion A placed second.
The winners received plaques and cash prizes of P30,000, P20,000, and P10,000, respectively. The non-winning groups also received a consolation prize of P5,000.
Vilma Dadie, the Focal Person of the Person with Disability Welfare Program, said it was their third year giving awards to PWD groups to recognize their efforts in making their projects and activities.
She said the Davao City’s 15 administrative districts took part in the event. The city has 378 PWD groups with about 14,000 active members.
She said the PWD-organized organizations first participated in district competitions, with the victors going on to the citywide competition.
At the district level, the winners received cash prizes worth P5,000, for the first place and P3,000 and P2,000, for the 2nd place, and 3rd place, respectively.
Dadie said the winners have developed their own initiatives that helped PWDs achieve a more fulfilling and productive lifestyle and eventually become independent and valuable contributors to society. CIO
