Davao City forges stronger ties with Hamamatsu City, Japan following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a sister city agreement on October 29.
The MOU signing took place at the Matina Enclaves, and was participated in by Hamamatsu Mayor Yusuke Nakano and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte.
Delegates from the Hamamatsu City Government along with officials from the City Government of Davao were also present during the event.
The signing of the sister city agreement intends to foster and explore potential collaborations as well as to continue ongoing partnerships in the fields of education, academia, economy, and investment.
In his speech, Mayor Duterte expressed his hopes that the residents of both cities will equally enjoy the benefits of the agreement.
“With this partnership, we hope for both Dabawenyos and the residents of Hamamatsu City to learn from each other, pursue both business and academic engagements and boost the already strong relations between Dabawenyos and the Japanese,” he said.
Mayor Yusuke Nakano shared the same hopes that with the signing of the agreement comes a stronger collaboration in fields of education, academia, industry, investment, and economy.
Hamamatsu City boasts a geographical diversity similar to Davao’s. It is home to many famous companies that reached global success not only in the field of automobile manufacturing but also in the music industry.
