The City Government of Davao, through the Davao City Housing Office (DCHO) actively joined the month-long observance of the National Shelter Month with various activities lined up.

DCHO Head Estela Malate, during the weekly flag ceremony, said that the main purpose of the observance of NSM is to underscore the importance of housing in the development of the nation and its role in enhancing the social, economic, and spiritual well-being of the people.

She said that their office prepared activities for the public, as well as DCHO employees.

Malate said that the activities for NSM started on October 1, through a thanksgiving mass, followed by the participation of the office in a housing caravan conducted by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DSHUD) from October 1-3 at the Gaisano City Gate Mall Buhangin.

They also started the DCHO Bowling Tournament for employees on October 4 and will continue on October 11, and 18.

“Being a newly-created department, this activity aims to strengthen teamwork, unity, and sportsmanship among Davao City Housing Employees,” she said.

Also, one of the activities set is the Training Session on Land Documentation and Titling Process with the theme “Pagsubay ug Pagpahimutang sa Panimalay”. This will take place on October 22.

“This is for concerned urban land reform program officers. We will be inviting concerned agencies as resource persons like the Land Registration Authority, Bureau of Lands, City Assessor’s Office, and others,” she said, adding that October 30 will be the Shelter Month Culmination and Awarding.

Malate said that currently, the city has 19 existing city-owned resettlement areas, 62 areas under the urban land reform program, two city-assisted projects, and six private relocations assisted by the city.

“We also have ongoing and proposed housing projects in the pipeline currently under land documentation,” Malate said.

She added that a housing program option is also available at their office.

She invited employees of the City who have no real property and are interested in availing of the said option to visit their office for inquiries and concerns.

As a parting message, Malate enjoined everyone to help in ensuring proper housing for all.

“Magtinabangay ta para sa pagsubay ug pagpahimutang sa panimalay sa atong siyudad (Let’s work together to monitor and provide a stable housing in our City),” she said. CIO
