In preparation for the revival of the Kamp Pag-asa, a live-in summer camp for children, the City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, organized a Summer Kids Camp at Eden Nature Garden Resort on September 2-3.

Thirty-five children with disability (CWD) from 15 from all over Davao City attended the summer camp.

Jean Abrina, support staff of the PWD Welfare Program, said the summer camp aims to give CWD an opportunity to develop their talents, capabilities and potential through peer interaction and other activities made for them.

“Daghan man kaayo’g mga talented special children. Unya maka socialize gani pod sila. Unya ma-appreciate pod nila ang nature (There are a lot of talented special children. It would also help them socialize with others and enjoy nature), she said.

Activities like Amazing Race, story-telling, environmental talks for proper waste management, animal feeding, swimming, and talent show were held during the kids’ camp.

“Para ma-feel pod nila nga naa gyud diay mga activity nga ginahatag ang gobyerno para sa ilaha. Kay actually, isa gyud na sa ilang mga clamor gyud (It would make them feel that the government is making activities for them, because actually, one of their clamors), she said.

Parents who attended the camp with the CWD gave an overwhelming feedback.

“Gusto daw nila nga naa na pod next year (They want to conduct the same activity next year),” she said. CIO
