The City Government of Davao on August 19 issued an Executive Order constituting the membership of the Museo Dabawenyo Advisory Board, its powers and functions.
EO 27 Series of 2024 was issued based on City Ordinance No. 0266-06 Section 7 which states that the Museo Dabawenyo Advisory Board be composed of the City Mayor as chairperson, the Schools Division Superintendent of the Department of Education as the vice-chair, and the chairpersons of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Education and Committee on Tourism, as well as the chairperson of the Davao Historical Society and four (4) other representatives from the private sector, as members.
Section 8 of the ordinance also states that the City Mayor will appoint representatives nominated by respectable business associations, recognized non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the museum and cultural sectors.
The Advisory Board will act on decisions involving the operations and services of the Museo Dabawenyo. The board will also adopt an official seal that will be recognized by the courts, and create bylaws, guidelines or rules that it thinks are appropriate in accordance with the Museo Dabawenyo Ordinance.
The Advisory Board will also be in charge of managing the Museo Dabawenyo Trust Fund. It will also be the one deciding on entrance prices to supplement Museo Dabawenyo’s maintenance and upkeep costs.
Constructed in 1953, Museo Dabawenyo continues to adhere to its goal, which is to spread awareness of the Dabawenyo people’s rich cultural and historical legacy, and promote harmony among Davao City’s residents despite the diversity in cultural backgrounds.
