In preparation for the Ironman 2024 set on August 11, 2024, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office is in the process of cutting off the island on McArthur Highway at Matina Crossing to accommodate more vehicles.

CTTMO head Dionisio Abude, in an interview with Madayaw Dabaw on May 15 at Dona Vicenta Park, said that they already anticipated the influx of vehicles in the area on the race day as the Davao City Coastal Road is part of the course.

“In preparation sa atong Ironman gihahimo ng atong cutting of island diha sa crossing Matina kay once gani nga ipatigayon nang Ironman karong August 11, ang tanang sakyanan nato sa north and south muagi sa Crossing Matina. Dapat i-prepare nato na siya na i-smooth ang travel sa atong sakyanan (In preparation for Ironman we are cutting off the island in Crossing Matina because during the conduct of the Ironman on August 11 all vehicles from the North and the South will pass through Matina Crossing so we should prepare it for the smooth travel of the vehicles),” Abude said.

The 2024 Ironman race course is set to take place from the Davao City Coastal Road – from Matina Times Beach to the Bago Aplaya segment – to Coronon, Sta. Cruz.

Based on the information from the Ironman Philippines site, the Davao City Coastal Road will be used for the running part of the race.

On March 19, the City Government of Davao, together with representatives of Sunrise Events, the event’s organizer, conducted a walk-through and ocular inspection to ensure that the new venue for the IRONMAN 70.3 is safe and secure for both the participants and spectators

The walk-through and inspection were participated in by the city’s safety and security cluster, a team from Sunrise Events, the city’s Sports Development Division, the City Administrator for Administration, Atty. Tristan Dwight Domingo, and representatives from the Municipality of Sta. Cruz.
