The Davao City Sports Development Division, in partnership with the Department of Education Davao City Division, is all set for the upcoming Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA) Meet.
The event is set to run from April 1—7, 2024.
Michael Denton Aportadera, Officer-in-Charge of the City Sports Development Division, said in an interview with the City Information Office (CIO) on Thursday that the preparations for the DAVRAA 2024 are almost done, and that they are now just waiting for the final stretch of the preparations and the arrival of the delegates.
“So far ok naman tanan, in place naman tanan, we’re just waiting for kaning pananglitan kaning mga, naa’y mga things that we need to, want to provide for the delegation, mao nalang nang ginahulat namo plus pag-abot na sa mga delegation next week. Mao na na among ginapreparahan [So far, everything is already in place, and we’re only waiting for the delivery of items that we wanted to provide the delegation; and the arrival of the delegations next week],” he said.
Aportadera also assured that the billeting quarters are fully equipped to accommodate the delegates to the DAVRAA. The playing venues are also already secured for the different sports events.
“Ang billeting areas and playing venues naa pa’y uban karon as we speak nga ginarepare gyud, ginamake sure nga ok ang tanan ang condition sa mga structure, ang kaning dulaan sa mga athletes nato, ginatrabaho na karon, ug katong mga roads leading to certain playing venues and billeting areas, engineering aspects, ginaayo napud na siya [Final repairs and preparations of some billeting areas and playing venues are underway, as we speak. We are making sure that the structures are in good condition, as well as the engineering aspects of the roads leading to certain playing venues and billeting areas are being fixed],” he said.
According to Aportadera, the City Engineer’s Office, the Sports Development Division, and the Department of Education are also closely monitoring the repairs and preparations being conducted at the UP Mindanao Sports Complex, the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as for some sports events for DAVRAA.
Aportadera also said that the City Government of Davao, along with the DepEd Division Office, already met the participating Local Government Units, the DepEd Regional Office, and the security and safety cluster of the city headed by P/Col. Angel Sumagaysay (Ret.) to brief them on the guideline, preparations, and security measures done by the city for the event. CIO
