In time for the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration, the Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) has set up fortune panels and Chinese lanterns at the City Hall grounds to welcome the Year of the Wood Snake.

Jennifer Romero, the Officer-in-Charge of the CTOO, during the ISpeak Media Forum on Thursday said that before 2024 ended, the Davao City Chinatown Council already convened to prepare for the Chinese New Year.

She added that the city is all set for the event.

There will be a program at the Rizal Park on January 28 to showcase the culture of the Chinese community in the city as well as to welcome the Chinese New Year.

Charlotte Parba, an official from the CTOO, said in an interview that as part of their preparations for the celebration, their personnel cleaned the four Chinese entryway arches of the city and that various decorations were already set up.

“Sa kasalukuyan, we are already done with the cleaning of the four arches sa atoang siyudad just last weekend. Also, if you noticed the installation of fortune panels sa tugkaran mismo sa atoang City Hall area (As of the moment, we are already done with the cleaning of the four arches in the city. We have also installed fortune panels at the City Hall grounds),” she said.

Romero also said that the Sister Cities of Davao in the People’s Republic of China, including Jinjiang, Nanning and Tai’an, have already sent video messages to be presented in the event.

Zhao Xiuzhen, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, will also attend the event where there will be dragon dance, traditional offering rituals, and other performances.

A brief history of the Davao City Chinatown will also be shown to the public through a video presentation.

Romero added that they have invited the Chinese community in the city as well as the Chinese Schools to participate in the event. CIO
