The City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) on Thursday named the 11 contingents that are set to compete for Mugna sa Pasko 2024 on Sunday, December 15.
The Mugna sa Pasko is a new event added to the Pasko Fiesta activities this year. It is a Christmas-themed creative costume competition where groups of five participants dress up in festive costumes and parade through the city’s main streets. The competition aims to make the Pasko Fiesta celebration more colorful and enjoyable.
The 11 contingents are the Yuletide Angels, The Five Gifts, Christmas Sweets, Christmas Jungle, Shooting Star Gayz, Christmas Village and Its Festive Ornaments, The Five Christmas Tree, All Works Technique Canvas Supply (AWTCS) Ornaments of Wonder, The Christmas in Davao, Angel Bells, and A Christmas under the Sea.
Mugna sa Pasko guidelines state that the parade from C.M. Recto Corner Roxas Avenue to San Pedro Square must include five characters, a mascot, and elements of a Christmas creative and themed costume. It must be artistic, extravagant, and fantastical portraying the Dabawenyo Christmas spirit and joyous procession.
The characters must also have complete makeup and costumes, and the concepts and designs must be powerful and child-friendly. It should have enough lighting, and copyright regulations should be appropriately followed. Every light utilized should be suitable for outdoor use, and even in inclement weather, entries must maintain their lights. Before being used during the event, every electronic component needs to pass inspection. To prevent suffocation, all mascots should have adequate ventilation.
The costumes’ size must not be greater than 14 feet in length, width, and height.
The winner will get P100,000, while the second and third placers will receive P75,000 and P50,000, respectively. Non-winners will also receive P25,000 consolation prize.
The Mugna sa Pasko will be held alongside Parada sa Pasko.
Dabawenyos are also encouraged to watch as the contestants showcase their stunning and unique Christmas-themed costumes.
