The armed wing of the Maoist Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) continues to weaken force after 10 of its supporters abandoned their post in Paquibato, Davao City, and return to the fold of the law.
In coordination with the Davao City Peace 911, the ten supporters of communist group New People’s Army (NPA) were welcomed by the Davao City Police (DCPO) and the 10O3rd Infantry Batallion in Brgy. Malabog Gym, Paquibato District.
“The said surrender shows that they are now willing to cooperate with the constituted authorities and this will further weaken the CPP/NPA in the area,” said Angel Sumagaysay, the Head of the Public Security and Safety Command Center.
Peace 911 Focal Person Aileen Mabanding assured that the former supporters, who have standing warrants of arrest, will be aided with the necessary legal assistance relative to their case. The ten are facing charges of attempted murder relative to the shooting incident in July 2012 involving personnel of the 69th IB who were conducting an outreach program in Brgy. Mabuhay, Paquibato District.
“We will be assisting them in their legal needs. We will also be monitoring the cases and ensure that they will be represented by lawyers,” she said.
Mabanding cited the move of the supporters serve as an example for all other rebel groups who are still fighting a losing battle.
“Gi-awhag nato ang uban pa nga mobalik na sa sabakan sa gobyerno alang sa tinud-anay nga kabag-ohan sa ilahang kinabuhi, ug alang sa ilahang mga anak ug apo. Aron sab sa kahapsay sa pagpamuyo nila sa komunidad (We urge the others to come back to the government side if they want true change in their lives and for their children and grandchildren. So that they may also live in peace in their communities),” Mabanding said.
DCPO Chief Police Col. Kirby John Kraft also assured the ten that they are in good hands and will be provided with what they need from the police force.
“Sa ating mga sampung kasamahan, ayaw mo og kahadlok. Tutulungan po namin kayo. Wag po kayong mag-alala, nasa mabuting kamay po kayo (To the ten members, do not be afraid. We will help you. Do not worry, you are in good hands),” he said. CIO
