The Commission on Election (Comelec) and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Tuesday started the “Operation Baklas” around the city as the campaign period for candidates running for national elective offices began.

Campaign materials that were displayed outside the designated common poster areas were taken down.

Bridges, temples, trees, schools, government buildings, electric posts, and other locations outside of the approved common poster zones are all forbidden places for campaign posters. Although campaign posters are allowed on private properties, the owner’s consent is still required.

Lawyer Gay Enumerables, Comelec Assistant Regional Director, said in a media interview on Wednesday that their team visited District 1 and carried out the operation with success on Tuesday.

Over 100 campaign materials were taken down during Tuesday’s operation.

She also said the candidates already know the rules, adding that those who continue committing violations may face charges.

Enumerables said the police in the different districts and the Comelec will continue working together to remove the posters. CIO
