Davao City tourism rate up by 16.89

The City Tourism Office has revealed that the number of tourists in Davao City increased by 16.89 percent for the month of January and February compared to last year’s data for the same period.

City Tourism Operations Officer-in-Charge Regina Rosa Tecson said there was a 13 percent increase in visitor traffic in January 2018, when a total of 169,638 tourists came compared to 149,000 in January 2017.

She also noted that there was a 20 percent increase in visitor traffic in February 2018 with 172,439 compared to 143,589 in the same month last year.

“For January and February 2018, we had a total of 342, 077 visitors, a total of 16.89 percent increase from last year, which has 292, 653, for hotel occupancy data alone,” Tecson said on Thursday.

Tecson said that the increase can be attributed to the number of conventions held in the city during the first two months of the year.

Tecson said given the increase in visitor traffic for non-tourism activities, she is positive that the city is now one of today’s top MICE destinations. MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibits.

“It means na we have established ourselves as a steady place for MICE, so ‘yun po yung aim natin for Davao City — being the gateway for the rest of the region.” CIO
